Additional Info

The Annapurna Circuit with Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) addition combines the famous 360° glacier-framed amphitheater at ABC with the traditional high-altitude loop around the Annapurna Massif. Permits, fitness requirements, seasonal timing, equipment requirements, accommodations standards, altitude safety, and emergency planning are all significant factors to take into account in addition to the daily schedule.

Fees and Permits:

  • Each person must pay NPR 3,000 for an Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP).

  • Each Trekker's Information Management System (TIMS) card costs NPR 2,000.

  • Both are available in Pokhara and Kathmandu (usually through your trekking operator).

Challenge and Fitness:

  • Overall, moderate to demanding.

  • The highest points are ABC at 4,130 meters and Thorong La Pass at 5,416 meters.

  • Spending five to eight hours a day walking on a variety of surfaces, including stairways, river crossings, rocky trails, and scree slopes.

  • Pre-trek conditioning calls for at least 8–12 weeks of aerobic exercise, such as running, cycling, and stair climbing.

  • To manage steep ascents and descents, strengthen your legs and core.

Adapting to the Altitude and Preventing Illnesses:

  • For a gradual ascent, built-in rest days, such as in Manang, are essential.

  • Steer clear of alcohol and tobacco, and drink three to four liters of water every day.

  • AMS symptoms include headache, nausea, dizziness, insomnia, and dyspnea.

  • If symptoms worsen, use portable oxygen or get out right away. Altitude medicine and basic first aid supplies are carried by guides.

Timing:

  • Mid-March to May is the ideal time of year to go trekking because of the warm temperatures, clear skies, and rhododendron bloom.

  • Fall, which lasts from late September to November, is characterized by consistent weather, clean air, and celebrations of Thanksgiving.

  • Steer clear of the monsoon season (June–August) because of the heavy rain, landslides, and leeches; winter (December–February) brings deep snow and freezing temperatures above 4,000m.

Accommodations and Food:

  • Basic twin rooms with shared bathrooms and communal wood-burning stoves are available in tea houses and lodges.

  • Upmarket guesthouses may provide private rooms with private bathrooms in congested villages like Muktinath, Manang, and Chame.

  • In addition to a range of soups, noodles, pasta, omelets, and yak-cheese, meals include the traditional Nepali dish dal-bhat, which consists of rice, lentils, and vegetables.

  • Keep water purification tools (tablets or filters) and snacks (chocolate, almonds, and energy bars) on hand.

Equipment:

  • The most important things to bring are hiking pants, gaiters, a waterproof shell, an insulated jacket, down or fleece midlayers, and moisture-wicking base layers.

  • Footwear: sandals, camp shoes, or well-worn hiking boots.

  • Accessories include things like a sun hat, insulated gloves, light, UV-rated sunglasses, a scarf or buff, and a warm hat.

  • Technical equipment includes things like sleeping bags that can withstand temperatures as low as -10°C, trekking poles, a headlamp with extra batteries, and water bottles or a hydration bladder.

  • Personal: toiletries, lip balm, hand sanitizer, sunscreen (SPF 50+), blister care, and a basic first aid kit.

Planning for Safety and Emergencies:

  • Travel insurance is necessary for high-altitude trekking and helicopter evacuation.

  • For load carrying, route finding, altitude control, and cultural comprehension, local porters and guides are beneficial.

  • Two options for communication are a local SIM card with roaming coverage for distant areas or a rental satellite phone.

  • Health check: It is recommended that you have a pre-trip medical examination, especially if you have cardiopulmonary disorders.

Summary:

  • The grand cirque of ABC, high mountain passes, varied ecosystems, cultural villages, and natural hot springs are all combined into one incredible journey by the Annapurna Circuit and ABC. You can fully appreciate its breathtaking scenery and rich Himalayan heritage if you are well-prepared in terms of permits, fitness, timing, equipment, and safety procedures.

Annapurna Circuit Trek with ABC FAQs

This trek is moderately to strenuously challenging, especially with the altitude rising from 1,300m to 5,416m at Thorong La Pass. That said, it’s totally doable for fit beginners with strong determination and proper preparation. You’ll walk through varied terrain—from lush forests to high-altitude alpine zones—so cardiovascular and strength training beforehand will really help. And don’t worry, our experienced guides will pace the trek sensibly to help with acclimatization.

You get the best of both worlds—cultural richness and raw Himalayan beauty. The Annapurna Circuit offers an immersive experience through diverse ethnic villages, holy temples like Muktinath, and dramatic gorges, while the Annapurna Base Camp section adds serene glaciers, a breathtaking natural amphitheater, and sunrise magic from Poon Hill. It’s like walking through Nepal’s entire story in one epic journey.

Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are ideal, with stable weather, clear skies, and colorful landscapes. Rhododendrons bloom in spring, while autumn gives crisp mountain views. Avoid the monsoon season (June–August) due to slippery trails and limited visibility.

Absolutely. From multiple points on the route—especially Poon Hill and Annapurna Base Camp—you’ll be surrounded by jaw-dropping vistas of Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Machapuchare, and more. It’s a photographer’s paradise and an emotional high point of the journey.

Expect cozy tea houses with hearty meals. Dal Bhat (rice with lentils), momos, noodles, soups, and pasta are staples, and you’ll be surprised how good they taste after a day of trekking! Rooms are simple but clean, with shared toilets. Bring a good sleeping bag for extra comfort.

It can be, which is why the trek includes rest days in places like Manang to help you acclimate gradually. Drink lots of water, avoid alcohol, and listen to your body. Our guides are trained to recognize symptoms early and act fast if needed—your safety is our top priority.

Layering is key. Think moisture-wicking base layers, warm mid-layers, a down jacket, and a waterproof shell. Sturdy trekking boots, a warm sleeping bag, sun protection, and a refillable water bottle are musts. Don’t forget a headlamp and some treats for those long uphill slogs!

Yes—and it’s heavenly. You’ll soak in the natural hot springs at Tatopani, and again near Jhinu Danda after your ABC summit. It’s a magical way to rest sore legs and reflect on your adventure while surrounded by nature. Pure bliss!

Very much so. You'll pass through Gurung, Thakali, and Manangi villages, visit Barge Monastery, and experience the spiritual ambiance of Muktinath Temple—a sacred site for both Hindus and Buddhists. It’s not just a trek; it’s a soulful journey through Nepal’s heart.
