Top of the World Adventure is the only travel agency at Tribhuvan International Airport. After collecting your baggage, you will find our agency at the international arrival terminal. Our airport staff will brief you about the trip and provide you with vouchers. You will then be transferred to your hotel from the arrival gate.

You will catch an early morning flight to Lukla and begin your trek to Paiya (2,730 meters) after landing at Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla. You will walk on a jungle trail, cross a bridge over the Handi Khola, and reach Surke village. From here, you will continue moving south and cross the Chutok La Pass before reaching the small settlement of Paiya, also known as Chutok. Overnight in Paiya.

Optionally, you can take a shared jeep drive to Salleri and then drive to Paiya from Salleri, skipping the flight.

You will descend for a while and reach a small bridge. From here, the trail is slippery until you cross the Kari La Pass. You will walk through rhododendrons and bamboo forests on a narrow mountain trail. On today’s trip, you will also get to admire the Dudh Koshi Valley. You will continue your trek to Panggom village, where the settlers depend on farming and trading. Overnight in Panggom.

You will begin your trek after breakfast. After trekking out of Panggom, you will cross the Panggom La Pass. Then you will ascend, walk on a steady path, and turn north. You will cross Peseng Kharka Khola first, then after walking for some time, reach Peeng Kharka Danda. You will cross Ningsow Khola (stream) before reaching Ningsow village. Overnight in Ningsow.

From Ningsow, you will climb first, then descend for a while, and climb some more to reach Ramailo Danda. From here, you will get extraordinary views of Mera Peak and Salpa. After ascending and descending on your trail, you will enter the Makalu Barun National Park. Your trail from here to Chhatra Khola is called the Pasang Lhamu Trail. On the way, if you are lucky, you might even come across the elusive Red Panda. Overnight in Chhatra Khola.

On this day, you will walk towards the north on the main trail to Mera Peak. After walking on a trail next to the Majang Khola, you will merge with another trail that moves alongside the Hinku Khola. Your trail moves straight ahead towards Tashing Ongma, which has seasonal tea shops. You will continue your trek and cross the bridge over the Sanu Khola before reaching Kothe. Overnight at a teahouse in Kothe.

You will trek along the ridge of the Hinku Khola in the shadow of Mera Peak. You will have lunch at Gondishung, the summer herder's settlement on the first bank of the Hinku Drangka. Beyond Gondishung, you will pass a 200-year-old Lungsumgba Gompa, where you can find Mera Peak scripted in rock along with its route to reach Mera. A short walk takes you to Thaknak, a summer grazing area with primitive lodges and shops. Overnight in Thaknak Teahouse Lodge.

Leaving Thaknak, you will follow the lateral moraine of Dig Glacier to Dig Kharka, which offers spectacular views of Charpate Himal. The trail climbs through moraines to the snout of the Hinku Nup and Shar glaciers and then climbs more steeply to Khare. From here, you can see the northern face of Mera Peak, which will be an amazing experience. After lunch, you can hike in and around Khare. Overnight in Khare.

You will have a separate day set aside solely for acclimatization and basic training to prepare yourself better for the Mera Peak climb. Your climbing leader will help you polish your basic climbing techniques and demonstrate the best ways to use your climbing gear, such as the ice axe, harness, ascender, climbing boots, and crampons. The training will also include learning the best climbing techniques with the rope. Overnight in Khare.

You will walk through a boulder-strewn course on a steep trail to reach the Mera Peak Base Camp. From here, you will continue further through the Mera La Pass to reach the Mera High Camp. Your path is along a rocky trail, which can be hazardous if it has recently snowed, as there are some crevasses here. You will make your way to the top of the rock band, marked by a large cairn. Then you will set up a high camp while enjoying excellent views of Mt. Everest, Makalu, Cho Oyu, the south face of Lhotse, Nuptse, Chamlang, and Baruntse. Overnight at Mera High Camp.

This is a crucial day for the expedition. You will wake up around 2 am for breakfast. It will be very cold initially, but you will warm up as you continue up the glacier and onto a peculiar ridge. The first rays of the sun will hit the big peaks, creating an amazing red glow. The route remains non-technical as you slowly climb higher into the ever-thinning air. The slope steepens for a section behind the ridge, and the summit comes back into view. At the foot of the final steep summit cone, you may use a fixed rope if the climbing leader deems it necessary. The summit is only a few meters away. From the summit, you will enjoy spectacular views of the mighty Himalayas, including Mt. Everest (8,848 meters), Cho-Oyu (8,210 meters), Lhotse (8,516 meters), Makalu (8,463 meters), Kangchenjunga (8,586 meters), Nuptse (7,855 meters), Chamlang (7,319 meters), Baruntse (7,129 meters), and others. Later, you will retrace your steps back to the high camp, rest for a while, and then descend to Khare. Overnight in Khare.

There is no surety of favorable weather on your planned summit day. Therefore, this day is set aside as a contingency in case you are unable to summit Mera Peak on the desired day due to bad weather conditions or any other unanticipated reason. If the trip goes smoothly, this day will not be required.

You will trek from Khare to Kothe along the same trail used previously. After reaching Kothe, you will celebrate your success by trying out local foods and wines. Overnight in Kothe.

Begin your trek to Thuli Kharka after breakfast. You will climb up and descend, crossing several tributaries of the Inkhu Khola before reaching a forked trail near Taktho. Choose the trail on your right and continue walking. Your trail passes by a Chorten, after which you will walk downhill on a steep trail. Next, you will ascend to Thuli Kharka and pass by another Chorten on the way. Overnight in Thuli Kharka.

You will cross the Zatrwa La Pass at 4,610 meters. As soon as you cross the pass, you will be welcomed by the sight of the beautiful Lukla Valley, surrounded by many Himalayan peaks. From Zatrwa La Pass, you will walk down to Chutang and then continue straight to Lukla village. In the evening, enjoy a celebratory dinner. Overnight in Lukla.

Everest Base Camp Trek Permits

For the Everest Base Camp Trek, you will need to obtain the following permits:

  • Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit: This permit is required to enter the national park where Everest Base Camp is located.
  • Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS) Card: This card is required for all trekkers in Nepal.

You can typically obtain the Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit and TIMS Card in Kathmandu. Our package includes the necessary permit fees, and we can assist you in obtaining them.

Everest Base Camp Trek Difficulty

The Everest Base Camp Trek is considered a challenging trek. Your physical fitness, mental determination, and prior trekking experience significantly influence your experience.

While the distance to Everest Base Camp isn't exceptionally long, the high altitude is the primary challenge. The trail involves several ascents and descents, and you'll be trekking for multiple days at altitudes above 4,000 meters.

Trekkers should be prepared for:

  • Rocky and uneven terrain
  • High altitude and potential altitude sickness

Being in good physical condition is essential to fully enjoy the trek. While teahouse accommodations are available, they are basic. Be prepared for simple amenities.

Altitude Sickness

Altitude sickness is a serious concern on the Everest Base Camp Trek. It's crucial to acclimatize properly as you ascend to higher elevations.

To minimize the risk of altitude sickness:

  • Ascend gradually, allowing your body to adjust.
